BatMUD IRC Gateway Setup

A short guide to setting up a connection to BatMUD with an IRC client from a mobile device.

What's all this then?

This page documents some instructions for setting up an IRC client using AndChat on Android. This is meant to be for the 25th Gala "just for fun" but anyone with a character can use it. While it is possible to also use any other IRC client such as mIRGGI for Nokia SymbianOS (tested by Rhoads) and other IRC clients for Apple IOS such as IRC999 or Limechat, I've developed this and tested it using Android. If you are using another device the basic concept is the same. Just fill in the right settings to an IRC client and you should get connectivity.

Instructions

  • 1. Download AndChat from the Google Play store
    2. Press the circled Plus button to add a new Connection configuration.
    3. Put in a connection configuration name (Bat). NOTE: THIS IS NOT YOUR CHARACTER NAME.

Address should be set to: ircgw.bat.org

Set the Port field to: 6667

In the "Nick 1" field put in your BatMUD character name.
    4. Scroll down the page and press the "Set up..." button for the Authentication settings popup.
    5. Check the 'Use server password' box. Then, enter your character password in the password field below.

    Click 'OK'.

Then, click the Floppy icon (marked in green) on the top right to save the entire profile.
    6. Ready to go. Hit the button DJ!

Some commands from the status window:
/tell charactername blah blah - send a tell.
last - on channel. Is like doing a last in BatMUD on the channel.
