Tear Collectors of Kauwenda

The Tear Collectors of Kauwenda are a secretive fellowship whose members conceal their faces behind veils, mirroring how Kauwenda herself shrouds the mysteries of death. They serve as intermediaries between life and unlife — a transition often fraught with pain. Many souls leave behind metaphorical tears: fragments of life essence which the Tear Collectors gather for their own enigmatic purposes, whether benevolent, malevolent, or neutral. Each Tear Collector carries a smooth alabaster phial, known as a Tearcatcher, used to collect and store the tears of the dead—an essential tool in their solemn and mysterious craft.

Membership in the guild transcends traditional boundaries, welcoming both magi and religious people, provided they are devout and comprehend the veil’s significance as the divider between the realms of living and dead. Tear Collectors possess the unique ability to sense when someone has crossed the veil at a particular location, allowing them to collect the lingering essence of the departed. They also have the power to mend those who have passed through the veil, provided there is a connection to the deceased.
